On Monday’s episode of Raw, Braun Strowman cemented his spot as the red brand’s top heel after destroying several WWE Superstars and eventually the entire ring during his match against Big Show.
While Strowman’s focus will be on Roman Reigns at Payback, the likely battle against Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship will be the next great feud for Raw.
On the post-WrestleMania episode of Raw, Lesnar came out and essentially issued an open challenge for anyone in the WWE locker room to step up and challenge for the title. Strowman was the only man to answer the challenge, but he backed off and walked away before they could get physical.
Lesnar and Strowman didn’t fight that night, but the seeds have been planted for a match down the road.
Critics will claim that Strowman doesn’t have the in-ring prowess to deserve a match against Lesnar, but he doesn’t have to be a technical savage to stand toe-to-toe with the Beast. Instead, he has showcased his strength and surprised the WWE Universe with his abilities during matches against Reigns, Sami Zayn and Big Show.
Strowman and Reigns will likely have another solid hardcore match at Payback, but it will be a warm-up for what is to come. Instead of allowing the bout to have a proper finish, Lesnar should interfere and attack Strowman for calling him out.
Not only would Lesnar’s interference at Payback allow WWE to give Reigns yet another pay-per-view victory, but it would also build genuine animosity between the two mammoths and add instant heat to their upcoming feud.
Strowman has been at his best when he is on the warpath, and seeing his reaction to Lesnar’s attack and Reigns’ victory would make for an unforgettable episode of Raw. With Strowman being booked as an unstoppable heel force each week, Lesnar would work as the perfect hero to take him down. While Reigns may have been WWE’s first choice, Lesnar is the correct choice.
For old school wrestling fans who love the sheer violence of two brawlers, the match between Lesnar and Strowman will as physical as they come. Just as the two men destroyed each other during the 2016 Royal Rumble, the bouts will feature brutality not often seen in WWE.
Add in the fact that Strowman will be able to throw Lesnar around and Lesnar will be able to do the same to Strowman, and the matchups will feature several moments that leave the WWE Universe utterly speechless.
With WWE Creative doing such a great job with Strowman over the last several months, the hope now is they see the opportunity they have to put him against Lesnar and book the storyline correctly heading into the summer.
At SummerSlam 2017 in Brooklyn, Strowman should beat Lesnar for the Universal Championship.
